Introduction

 

Croydon School is seeking a dedicated, organised, and detail-oriented School Bursar to join our administrative team. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the school’s financial administration, including fee management, budgeting, accounts, and general financial reporting. We are looking for an individual with strong financial acumen, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work professionally with parents, staff, and service providers. Previous experience in a school environment will be advantageous. 

Duties & Responsibilities

 

  • Day-to-day management of the school finances 
  • Managing budgets 
  • Monitoring of all income and expenditure 
  • Preparing of financial reports 
  • Manage and maintain the school’s financial records and accounting systems.
  • Oversee school fee invoicing, collections, and follow-up on outstanding accounts.
  • Prepare monthly financial reports, budgets, and reconciliations.
  • Process payments, purchase orders, and supplier invoices.
  • Monitor cash flow and ensure accurate banking procedures are followed.
  • Assist with payroll administration and staff financial records where required.
  • Ensure compliance with financial policies, procedures, and audit requirements.
  • Communicate professionally with parents regarding accounts and payment arrangements.
  • Maintain confidential financial and learner information.
  • Coordinate with management regarding budgeting and financial planning.
  • Manage petty cash and maintain accurate expenditure records.
  • Assist with procurement and control of school resources and assets.
  • Support general administrative functions within the school office when necessary.
  • Prepare documentation for auditors and assist during audit processes.
  • Ensure timely submission of financial documentation and reports.

Desired Experience & Qualification

 

  • Matric / Grade 12 certificate is essential.
  • A qualification in Finance, Accounting, Bookkeeping, Business Administration, or a related field
  • Minimum of 2–3 years’ experience in a financial or administrative role.
  • Relevant references 
  • Previous experience in a school environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and financial systems/software.
  • Strong numerical, organisational, and administrative skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • High level of accuracy, professionalism, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with integrity and discretion.
  • Knowledge of budgeting, reconciliations, invoicing, and debt collection processes.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure.
  • Good time management and ability to meet deadlines.
