The incumbent will be expected to enhance the services offered by the Registrar Research Support Office, which aims to provide comprehensive research support to specialist registrars and their supervisors within the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMHS) at Stellenbosch University.
The incumbent will be reporting to the Vice-Dean: Research and Internationalisation (FMHS).
Duties/Pligte
Research capacity building:
Providing a holistic academic research support service to registrars across all disciplines in the Faculty.
Developing and facilitating material and training opportunities (which may include courses, workshops and short information sessions) that contribute to registrar research capacity.
Assisting registrars in navigating and utilising relevant academic and support service resources.
Maintaining a unit webpage and additional resources as needed.
Maintaining a community of practice amongst individuals supporting registrar research.
Maintaining current knowledge of theories and best practices for supporting student success.
Updating a repository of research-related resources.
Advocacy:
Working with FMHS departments, divisions, and centres to build a culture of enthusiasm and professionalism around research.
Providing capacity building services to consultants/supervisors to facilitate and strengthen registrar research supervision.
Maintaining a prominent and influential presence in the Faculty, clearly demonstrating the value and significance of registrar research.
Serving on relevant faculty committees and research support structures, including the Faculty Research Committee, and reporting on and advocating for the units activities within the
research community.
Ethics Review:
Providing consultation and support for ethics applications for registrars.
Serving on one of the Health Research Ethics Committees.
Funding:
Incentivising and support publication of registrar research.
Identifying and distributing funding opportunities that support registrar research, publication costs, and/or conference attendance.
Supporting application processes for registrars in terms of research funding opportunities.
M&E:
Engaging in monitoring and evaluation of the services offered by the unit.
Liaising:
Writing lab (SU Language Centre).
Biostats clinic (Division of Epidemiology and Biostatistics).
Other offices of the Research and Internationalisation Development and Support Division.
Tygerberg International.
Programme coordinators.
Committee for Postgraduate Teaching.
Manager: Student Affairs.

Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes
Master's degree in health sciences.
At least two years' work experience in a higher education environment.
At least two years' experience supervising/supporting postgraduate students at a master's level in health sciences.
A keen interest in the support and development of research capacity and postgraduate student success.
A strong academic record and recent publications in accredited academic journals.
Good management and academic leadership skills.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
Experience of working with individuals and groups with diverse needs.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders.
The ability to work autonomously, take initiative and set goals.
Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
Proficiency with relevant software applications (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel), databases, and web applications.
Recommendation/Aanbeveling
PhD in health sciences.
Experience in supporting the academic success of registrars.
Awareness of the particular demands faced by health professionals and, in particular, specialists in training.
