LECTURER IN AUDIOLOGY (ONE POST)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The incumbent will be expected to:
  • Engage in teaching, curriculum development, module coordination, and assessment and moderation of student work;
  • Coordinate programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels;
  • Engage in research supervision of postgraduate students commensurate with the post level;
  • Engage in clinical supervision of undergraduate students (at university clinics and other placements);
  • Conduct research commensurate with the level of appointment;
  • Contribute actively to the Department's research profile;
  • Perform various academic and administrative duties as assigned by the Head of Department;
  • Participate in the Department's strategic initiatives relating to teaching, research, and community engagement;
  • Contribute to transdisciplinary engagements in teaching and research.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS (LECTURER)
  • A Master's degree in Audiology
  • Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as an Audiologist (AU) or Speech Language Therapist and Audiologist (STA) in the independent practitioner category;
  • Evidence of research productivity (e.g., conference presentations; publications in peer-reviewed journals or equivalent).

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES
  • Professional practice/ clinical experience as an audiologist;
  • Ability to train audiology students in clinical skills;
  • Ability to lecture audiology students in various areas of audiology;
  • Demonstratable and clear research focus.

ADDED ADVANTAGES:
  • A doctoral degree;
  • Registration with the HPCSA as an Audiologist (AU) or Speech Language Therapist and Audiologist (STA) for three (3) years or more;
  • Experience in lecturing at the undergraduate level;
  • Experience in Research supervision at the postgraduate level;
  • Clinical and research experience in vestibular sciences.

The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent's level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
