In partnership with the Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness, we wish to appoint an academic with a broad range of clinical and teaching experience.

The Division of Occupational Therapy is part of the Department of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences. We train future occupational therapists through academic excellence, community engagement, and innovative research. We offer undergraduate and postgraduate programmes (from Bachelors to PhD level) with a focus on holistic, evidence-based practice. Students engage in real-world service through community-based projects, supporting underserved communities. Collaborative service delivery in clinical placements promotes teamwork across health disciplines.

The Division seeks to appoint a lecturer for the programmes offered in Occupational Therapy.

Appointment is on the joint establishment of Stellenbosch University and the Western Cape Government: Health and Wellness on the conditions of service of the University.

Duties/Pligte

Duties:

  • Facilitating learning and training (including teaching, mentoring and guiding undergraduate students in theoretical and practical aspects of teaching and learning, service delivery and
research).
  • Planning, organising and facilitating learning opportunities.
  • Effectively and efficiently assessing learning.
  • Continuous and summative evaluation of students.
  • Supervising undergraduate students during practical activities in relevant sites on the distributed training platform.
  • Clinical supervision of undergraduate students.
  • Research supervision of postgraduate students.
  • Preparing, managing and organising learning material.
  • Continuous and summative evaluation of students.
  • Rendering clinical services and consultation in relevant areas within the public health sector.
  • Academic administration.
  • Participating in planning and conducting research that leads to research outputs.
  • Involvement in service learning and community interaction activities.
  • Undergraduate and postgraduate teaching across the lifespan.
  • Active involvement in the development of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching modules.

Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes

Requirements:

  • A masters degree in occupational therapy or a related field.
  • Registration at the appropriate professional council (where applicable).
  • At least three years experience working as a health professional/or at least three years experience of teaching and learning at a higher education Institution.
  • Proven initiatives or the ability to give guidance to students.
  • The ability to communicate clearly (including clear and audible speech).
  • Proven experience and the ability to plan, organise and facilitate learning opportunities in various ways.
  • Skills in the preparation, management and organisation of learning material.
  • Skills in effectively and efficiently assessing learning.
  • A positive attitude to students.
  • Proven organisational skills.
  • The ability to function well within a team.

Recommendation/Aanbeveling

  • PhD in Occupational Therapy or enrolled as a PhD student.
  • Evidence of positive student feedback, module evaluations, self-assessments and peer- assessments.
  • Research experience and a good knowledge of research methodology.
  • Experience in postgraduate student supervision.
  • Proven experience and involvement in service to the community.
  • Attendance and participation in the development of short courses and other capacity building activities.
