- A professional teacher’s qualification in FP or equivalent with evidence of English as a HL (NQF Level 6-8).
- For Junior Lecturer: An honours degree in ECDE (or equivalent) with a focus on English HL in ECDE (NQF level 9) and studying towards a master’s degree in ECDE (or equivalent) with a focus on English HL in ECDE (NQF level 9).
- For Lecturer: A master’s degree in ECDE (or equivalent) with a focus on English HL in ECDE (NQF level 9).
- A minimum of two (2) years’ teaching experience in an ECDE school environment with English as a HL.
- Registrations with the South African Council for Educators.
ADDED ADVANTAGE:
- A minimum of two (2) years’ lecturing experience in a Higher Education environment on a full-time or part-time basis.
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
- Demonstrates deep understanding of literacy education and the Foundation Phase English HL curriculum (Grades R–3) (Essential).
- Plans and facilitates engaging, developmentally appropriate English HL learning experiences for pre-service Foundation Phase teachers, in contact and distance modes (Essential).
- Balances English HL literacy education with strategies for teaching multilingual learners (Essential).
- Designs and implements a range of formative and summative assessment strategies to monitor pre-service teachers’ grasp of English HL content and pedagogy, and to support responsive teaching (Essential).
- Demonstrates the ability to responsibly and effectively integrate AI tools to enhance English HL teaching, learning, and assessment. This includes guiding pre-service teachers to critically evaluate AI-generated content, use AI for lesson planning or formative assessment, and foster digital literacy in young learners (Essential).
- Uses digital platforms and online learning tools effectively to support English HL instruction in both contact and distance education settings (Essential).
- Conducts and supervises research in FP English HL education, contributing to knowledge production, innovation, and evidence-based teaching practices. (Essential)
- Demonstrates proficiency in using computers for academic and administrative purposes, including word processing, presentation software, spreadsheets, learning management systems and online communication platforms (Essential).

REMUNERATION:
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
