Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning
Plan and deliver daily lessons in accordance with the approved curriculum and scheme of work.Teach core subjects such as English Language, Mathematics, Basic Science and Technology, Social Studies, Civic Education, Creative Arts, Verbal and Quantitative Reasoning, and other assigned subjects.Use age-appropriate teaching methods and instructional materials to enhance pupils' understanding.Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs and abilities of pupils.
Encourage active participation and foster a love for learning among pupils.
Integrate educational technology and practical activities where appropriate.
Classroom Management
- Maintain a clean, orderly, safe, and stimulating classroom environment.
- Establish clear classroom rules and routines that promote discipline and positive
- behaviour.
- Monitor pupils during lessons, break periods, assemblies, and other school activities as assigned.
- Address behavioural concerns appropriately and in line with school policies.
Assessment and Record Keeping
Prepare and administer class exercises, assignments, projects, tests, and examinations.Mark and provide constructive feedback on pupils' work promptly.Maintain accurate records of pupils' attendance, academic progress, and behavioural development.Prepare report cards and other progress reports as required by the school.Identify pupils who require additional academic support and implement intervention strategies.Pastoral Care and Child Welfare
- Promote the emotional, social, and moral development of pupils.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of every child under their care.
- Observe and report concerns relating to child protection, safeguarding, health, or welfare issues.
- Foster an inclusive classroom culture that values respect, kindness, and cooperation.
Parent and Stakeholder Engagement
- Maintain effective communication with parents regarding pupils' academic progress and behaviour.
- Attend parent-teacher meetings and provide relevant feedback on pupils' performance.
- Respond professionally to parents' inquiries and concerns within established school procedures.
- Support school initiatives aimed at strengthening home-school partnerships.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Prepare weekly lesson plans, notes of lesson, and instructional materials as required.
- Maintain up-to-date classroom displays and learning resources.
- Submit records, reports, and documentation within specified timelines.
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, workshops, and professional development activities.
- Support the implementation of school policies and procedures.
Co-Curricular Activities
- Participate actively in school events, assemblies, excursions, clubs, and special programmes.
- Assist in organising activities that promote pupils' creativity, leadership, and social development.
- Undertake other duties reasonably assigned by the Head Teacher or School Management.
Person Specification
Educational Qualifications
- Minimum of Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) in Primary Education or a related field from a recognised institution.
- A Bachelor's Degree in Education (B.Ed., B.A.Ed., or B.Sc.Ed.) will be an added advantage.
- Registration with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) is desirable.
Experience
At least 1–2 years of teaching experience in a primary school setting is preferred.Experience teaching pupils in the lower primary section will be an added advantage.Fresh graduates with strong teaching practice experience and a passion for working with children may be considered.Required Skills and Competencies
- Good knowledge of the Nigerian primary school curriculum.
- Strong classroom management and organisational skills.
- Ability to prepare effective lesson plans and teaching aids.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to assess pupils' learning needs and provide appropriate support.
- Basic computer literacy and ability to use educational technology tools.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and parents.
- Creativity, patience, and enthusiasm for teaching young learners.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and reliability.
