Job Summary
The Mathematics Teacher will be responsible for planning and delivering effective Mathematics lessons to students in the junior and/or senior secondary school. The role involves promoting students' understanding of mathematical concepts, assessing learning outcomes, maintaining classroom discipline, and contributing to the overall academic development of students.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging Mathematics lessons in line with the approved curriculum.
- Prepare lesson notes, schemes of work, and instructional materials as required.
- Assess students through assignments, classwork, tests, projects, and examinations.
- Mark scripts promptly and maintain accurate records of students' performance.
- Provide academic support and guidance to students requiring additional assistance.
- Maintain effective classroom management and promote positive student behaviour.
- Prepare students for internal and external examinations, including BECE and WAEC/NECO, where applicable.
- Participate in departmental meetings, staff meetings, and school activities.
- Communicate professionally with parents regarding students' academic progress when necessary.
- Carry out any other duties assigned by the school management.
Requirements
- Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics Education, Mathematics, or a related field.
- A Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) is required for candidates without an education degree.
- Registration with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) will be an added advantage.
- At least 2 years of teaching experience in a secondary school setting is preferred.
- Good knowledge of the Nigerian secondary school curriculum.
- Strong communication, classroom management, and organisational skills.
- Proficiency in the use of basic ICT tools for teaching and record-keeping.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
