Never pay someone simply because they promise to secure a job for you.
Be cautious if anyone asks you to make a payment to:

  • Guarantee or secure a job
  • "Reserve" a vacancy
  • Influence a hiring decision
  • Secure an interview
  • Process your application
  • Obtain a job offer
  • Fast-track your employment
  • Register for a vacancy

Such requests may be described as a registration fee, processing fee, placement fee, interview fee, administrative fee, commitment fee, or recruitment fee.

If you are asked to make a payment, pause and verify the request before proceeding.

Does an Undisclosed School Name Mean a Vacancy Is a Scam?

Not necessarily.

Some legitimate recruitment consultants may initially withhold the name of the school or organisation they are recruiting for. This can happen when a school has engaged a recruitment consultant to manage its hiring process.

However, you should still expect clear information about the role, the recruitment process, and the organisation or recruiter handling your application as you progress through the process.

The absence of a school name alone does not prove that a vacancy is fraudulent. Consider the overall recruitment process and whether the information provided can be reasonably verified.

🚩 Red Flags to Watch Out For

Be especially cautious if a recruiter or individual:

  • Guarantees you a job in exchange for payment.
  • Asks you to pay before you can attend an interview.
  • Requests money to "secure" or "hold" a position.
  • Pressures you to make a payment immediately to avoid losing an opportunity.
  • Refuses to provide reasonable information about the employer or recruitment process.
  • Offers you a job without an interview, assessment, or meaningful selection process.
  • Asks you to transfer money to a personal account to secure employment.
  • Sends you suspicious payment links or unofficial websites.
  • Requests sensitive banking or account information that is not necessary for the recruitment stage.
  • Uses threats, pressure, secrecy, or urgency to prevent you from verifying the opportunity.

If something feels wrong, don't rush. Stop, verify, and ask questions before proceeding.

🔐 Protect Your Personal Information

Your personal and financial information should be treated carefully throughout your job search.
Never share your:

  • Bank PIN
  • ATM/debit card PIN
  • One-Time Password (OTP)
  • Internet banking password
  • Email password
  • Social media passwords
  • Card security details
  • Any other confidential banking credentials

  • An employer may legitimately request certain personal or professional documents during recruitment or onboarding. However, you should understand why the information is being requested, who is requesting it, and how it will be used before sharing sensitive information.

    Recruitment processes can vary between schools and organisations, but a typical process may involve: Application → Screening → Interview/Assessment → Selection → Offer → Onboarding

    Be cautious when someone skips the normal recruitment process and immediately offers you a job, particularly if they also request payment
