Why Finding the Right Talent Is Still a Challenge for Schools - Episode 2
Last week, we started a 4-part series on why schools find it hard to recruit the right talents and the first challenge we highlighted was “attracting the right talent”. In this episode, we’ll be exploring another common challenge that has nothing to do with qualifications, experience or even fit and strategies that schools can put in place to get better results when looking to recruit the right talents.
It is reaching the right talent.
Let’s get started with the second one.
Episode 2: Reaching the Right Talent
A vacancy goes live, and the applications start rolling in. Twenty. Fifty. A hundred.
It feels like momentum. It looks like success.
Then the school starts shortlisting for a SEN specialist, or a Head of Mathematics, and the truth sets in. None of the hundred applicants are quite right.
The person the school actually needs is out there. They are just not among the hundred who applied. They were never looking in this direction at all.
This is the gap between visibility and reach. A vacancy can be seen by a lot of people without ever being seen by the right people. Volume feels reassuring, but it is not the same thing as relevance.
Where a vacancy is posted shapes who applies to it. A general job board reaches general job seekers, people browsing across industries, roles, and sectors. It was never built to reach a specific SEN specialist scanning for openings in their field, or a maths teacher looking specifically at schools like this one.
Solution
An education-focused platform like ScholaEdu works differently. The people on it are already looking for education roles. They have narrowed their own search before the school even posts a vacancy. Reaching them does not require more applications. It requires the right applications.
This changes the question a school should be asking. Not "how many people applied," but "did the people we actually need see this opportunity at all."
A hundred applications from the wrong audience will never outperform ten from the right one. Reaching the right talent is not about casting a wider net. It is about casting it in the right water.
Every day your vacancy sits on the wrong platform, the right candidate is applying somewhere else. Don't let another great hire slip past you.
